On arrival in Christchurch, we cleared customs and picked up our rental car. This was interesting because we were tired and they drive on the left side of the road in New Zealand. We drove to to the place where we had booked our first night's accommodation, the Jailhouse Hostel, which was a working jail until 1999. Notice the thickness of the walls; the door is heavy steel.
Later we walked through Hagley Park where they have a really nice botanical garden with lots of flowers and some big old trees.
