Some good shoulders today. |
Another rest day. Breakfast was compliments of Subway this morning- flatbread with cheese, sausage and egg, plus whatever vegetable we wanted and coffee. Then we walked over to Quality Market and picked up fruit and tortillas. I checked the rear tire on my bike to confirm that it was not supposed to be on Susie’s, and adjusted the derailleurs on both bikes. At 11am Susie had another treatment. Then while she did our laundry, I went looking for a sweatshirt to use as padding for her bike seat, air for my bike, granola bars and a bank machine. Most of the day was spent with icing, stretching and elevating the injury.
Day 9 June 1 859 km
The end of enforced rest. Breakfast today was the big breakfast- two eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast, juice and coffee. After that Susie went for her last physiotherapy treatment. We got on the road at around 9:40 am and took the route suggested by the physiotherapist. Thus, we took Oliver to Water to Cumberland eastbound, and then made our way to Strathcona and Lakeshore. This took us almost one-third of the way to Nipigon along an excellent road with nice smooth shoulders. For the first two-thirds of the ride to Nipigon we had mostly tailwinds which promised to blow us into Nipigon by 3:30 pm. Today I hit my maximum speed of 57.73 kph. Then the winds changed and we fought sidewinds and headwinds. In some places the shoulders almost disappeared, which caused problems when trucks passed because the winds would change dramatically. We arrived in at the Nipigon River Motel around 5:30. After checking in, we walked to the grocery store and the beer store. Tonight we will watch the first game between Vancouver and Boston.
