Monday September 23.

This was the first day that we had less than perfect weather as the peak of Algonquin was surrounded by clouds. We only got views from more than half an hour from the summit.
We parked at ADK Loj, where inflation has raised the rate from US$8/day to $18/day. From there the trail was much like I recalled from about 30 years ago. There were lots of boulders to hop in the middle 2/3 of the hike.
It took us seven hours to make the round trip home. In comparison, the previous hike included Wright and Iroquois with a return via Avalanche pass. Thirty years has seen the mountains grow taller or we got slower.

Saturday September 21.

Today Gramie started feeling poorly before we could hike. So we drove back to the motel where Gramie Gramie chose to sleep the day away. She told me to get out for some exercise, which resulted in a solo hike up little Haystack near Ray Brook. Unfortunately, I forgot the cell phone with its camera resulting no pictures from the summit.

On the return hike, I spoke with two ladies, from Italy and Bylorussia. During our chat, I complained about our PM being incompetent and in need replacement after nine years. The lady from Bylorussia said that she has known only one leader, a dictator. Some people have worse leaders than we do.

Thursday September 19

Given Gramie's foot soreness, we picked a shorter hike, Pitchoff. That was perfect. There were great views from the balanced boulders area. Great weather again.

Sunday September 22.

We chose Giant Mountain and the Roaring Brook trail. Another perfect day for hiking. We saw few hikers on the first leg to the ridge path. Then we saw lots of fellow hikers. Although the day was warm and sunny there were low clouds, which gave rise to some interesting views.
Although surgical masks haven't been found to be effective against respiratory tract infections, they are perfect for carrying out egg shells.

Dinner was at at the nearby Red Neck Bistro where we had their chicken, beef brisket, pork ribs, sausage and salad. It was excellent and very filling. Our Waiter was a carnivore making for much interesting discussion.

Another perfect day in the Adirondacks

Friday September 20.

Our strategy for the day was to pick a great hike with a safety option. Whiteface was perfect. If Gramie's foot injury was aggravated by hiking, we could hitch a ride down from the summit because there is a road to the summit of Whiteface. Fortunately, we didn't need to use the bailout plan. The hike was great with sunshine and warm weather. We took the tunnel and elevator at the peak for fun. We found lots of people at the peak and spoke to several of them.

Wednesday September 18.

Mount Marcy. We left from South Meadow and went up by Marcy Dam and Indian Falls. Grand day with lots of sunshine. Gramie developed a sore foot, which make walking out a bit difficult.

A week of hiking in the Adirondacks.

We drove from Kingston to Lake Placid on Tuesday September 17, hiked Mount Cascade and checked into the Townhouse Lodge.
